I prefer being in background support roles, so keeping track of fees and membership status gives me the satisfaction of being organised, keeping tidy records and keeping in contact with our wonderful members. I worked in education, but I’m now retired and a busy grandparent. I’ve been in Global Voices for 27 years, since the choir’s early days, which doesn’t seem long because of the fun we have singing together, how we work to do justice to singing in a variety of languages, and the very real connection we have as a choir whānau. It’s an uplifting experience coming together every Wednesday and a privilege singing with new and old friends. A random global experience I once had – I picked coffee beans (berries) in Nicaragua for a month or so alongside some Nicaraguans and a few travellers like me.
